Sugar Cane Davis, also known as scd, is an American lo-fi beatmaker from Washington, United States. Known for blending hip-hop, jazz, and “melancholic/downtempo” music, scd’s work has garnered a dedicated following.

Back in the mid to late 2010s, Sugar Cane Davis gained success through self-pressed cassettes and SoundCloud. He’s now considered one of the underground pioneers of “lo-fi.” His journey into hip-hop began around when he was fifteen years of age when he started free-styling over beats and dropping numerous mixtapes. In need of beats, he began creating his own. Initially inspired by artists like J Dilla, Nujabes, Madlib, and Knxwledge, his influences and sound evolved during the “golden age” of SoundCloud lo-fi after he was introduced to artists like Wun Two, Smuv, and Coryayo. These influences helped shape his unique sound, known as the “scd sound.” The “scd sound” features airy drums, heavy low-end, melodic melodies often arranged under countermelodies, all creating a harmonic entrancement.

Over the years, Sugar Cane Davis has collaborated with various artists, including Jinsang, Oofoe, Omar Bmar, idntrmmbr, and others.
