SUISTAMON SÄHKÖ – Arctic Etnotekno Act
Suistamon Sähkö – the uncompromising folktronica act with a taste for folk poetry, rap and manic dance moves! With Suistamo's old village maps as their guide, they travel the bumpy roads of Karelia to bring you the grooviest accordion rhythms, funkiest samples and fizziest electronics, all tied up in a sweet bundle of folk tradition and hip-hop influences. Over the last few years, Suistamon Sähkö has grown into quite a phenomenon in Finland and has started to extend its audience to elsewhere in Europe. They have toured, for example, in France, Norway, Germany and Russia. In January 2020, Suistamon Sähkö showcased at Folk Alliance International event in New Orleans, USA. Suistamon Sähkö’s gigs are known for performative, boisterous stage presence where dance, costume design and video art play a big part. Their audience base has wide diversity of ages, genders and backgrounds. Creative combination of using and breaking traditions and roles is something that feels inclusive and exciting for many kinds of music and dance lovers.
