Formed in the vibrant heart of Camden, London in 2024, Summer Jack brings fresh energy to the ska and rocksteady revival. The band was founded by two 17-year-olds with a shared vision: Summer Jack, the lead vocalist, lyricist, and keyboard player, and Mick Barns, the band’s second vocalist and bassist. Their youthful drive quickly drew in other talented musicians from their local scene (listen ''ABC Sessions'')
Behind the drums and often leading the songwriting is Christophe Arvin-Bérod, who also adds trumpet arrangements during studio sessions. On guitar, Paul Shromon provides the rhythmic punch and melodic flourishes that anchor the band’s sound, while Gislain McFilis’s saxophone lines weave through the music with soulful intensity.
From their earliest rehearsals in Camden’s rehearsal rooms, the group’s chemistry was undeniable. Their sound fuses the raw groove of early Jamaican ska with the smooth textures of rocksteady, enriched by jazz-inspired brass and the lyrical storytelling of modern London life.
Though new to the scene, Summer Jack quickly gained attention for their high-energy performances and their ability to make classic Caribbean rhythms resonate with a new generation. With influences ranging from The Skatalites to contemporary UK ska-punk acts, they are determined to carve their own identity within the genre.
