A summer day may not bring to mind emotional complexity, but Cincinnati rock band Sun Delay’s songs are proof that a sun-soaked exterior can hide a greater depth of feeling.
Sun Delay is a trio which draws inspiration from the lineage of angular, rocking pop music which contains Red Hot Chili Peppers & the Strokes at one end & modern embodiments in Local Natives & Cage the Elephant at the other. The three young men – Andrew Kubiak (vocals/lead guitar), Lamont Nelms (bass), & Cole DeRose (drums) – first crossed paths at Princeton High School & have begun forging their path in the music world through a blitz of 2018 shows in the Cincinnati area.
Through their live show experiences at venues like Urban Artifact, Northside Yacht Club, & Dayton, Ohio’s Blind Bob’s, Sun Delay has honed a sound that celebrates complex drum signatures & rollicking guitar work while maintaining a gorgeous pop sheen evocative of both the carefree west coast sound & the rough edges of east coast garage rock. Their collaborative songwriting process leaves room for blissfulness & seriousness in their output, sometimes even within the same song.
