Sunshine (her real name!) is from Perth. At age 12 she was going to illegal, underground raves. She was mesmerised by the music, by the scene. By 14 she was buying records. Then at 16 she left school with a dream to become a DJ. To make that dream a reality she went fruit-picking to earn enough money for the bus & train fares to eventually land in Melbourne in 1998. She knew one person & set about working as a sandwich hand to save money for turntables. In the end her mum lent her the money, she got her Technics & old Vestax mixer.
Even back then Sunshine had eclectic tastes. She was, and still is, into soul, hiphop, rock, gospel & funk as much as she is into house & techno. It’s this spirt which eventually saw her secure the Saturday morning residency at infamous Melbourne club Revolver, a spot she has now held for a staggering 15 years.
Now Sunshine is expanding her horizons. She has set up a record label Disco Faith Recordings, begun producing her own music & established Disco Faith Choir.
The first release was ‘Here to Stay’, it reached #9 on the ARIA Club Chart. Its club music with a live gospel choir.
Its been a whirlwind of shows since including a full house 11 am Saturday morning set at Revolver, a sold out month long residency at the Night Cat, Nocturnal - Melbourne Museum, Wine Machine and the creation of the Heart party series at 170 Russell.
Unlike any thing else Sunshine and Disco Faith Choir fuse house, techno, gospel, soul, into one monster performance
