Suntou Susso is a kora player, singer, percussionist and composer from The Gambia. Born a Griot in a 700-year old tradition, Suntou was raised by his famous father Mamudou Susso to play the Kora, an African harp-lute with 22 strings. This instrument is unique to the Griots of the Mandinka people. Griots have a unique societal role as oral historians, where they preserve a people's culture through the generations with song, music and poetry.
Suntou was born in The Gambia, raised in The Gambia and Senegal, and now lives in the UK. His family includes some of the world's most well-respected West African musicians. His musical abilities are outstanding, perhaps unique for his generation. An in-demand and charismatic performer, he attracted attention as soon as he arrived on the UK music scene.
Suntou Susso is at once a guardian of the Griot tradition and a bold innovator of its future.
