Sural

San Diego’s emerging new artist, Sural, defies genre boundaries with a unique blend of distortion-heavy tracks and infectious pop hooks. Born to Sri Lankan immigrants in 1995, Sural’s musical foundations were built through the vibrant, rich sounds of his heritage, where jam sessions amongst family and friends were a communal celebration. Though dabbling in piano & violin as a kid, Sural turned to Logic Pro at the age of 14 to find his sound. A mix of playful pop with distorted digital soundscapes, Sural landed in the middle of hyperpop and soulful beats, at the intersection where 100 gecs meets “Trilogy” Weeknd .

Keeping his music to himself, Sural went on to grad school, getting his PhD in bioengineering and working on his research until 2020 put a pause on his life. With this extra time, Sural leaped into music - building new sounds, learning instruments, teaching himself how to sing, all culminating in his upcoming 2024 releases. Defining his new identity as an artist, Sural’s unique blend of musician and scientist creates an analytical yet cinematic sound that reflects on all of his influences.
