Svartnad was formed in April 2008 in Ängelholm, Sweden by Tobias Lindberg (bass, vocals) and Karl Hoverman (guitar, vocals) with the intention of creating music in the vein of older Scandinavian black metal-bands. Within a few weeks, Karl had recorded the demo “Save Me” to prototype the sound.
Karl left the band a few months later to focus on his studies. In December that same year, Alexander Larsson (guitar, vocals) joined the band. The single “Days of Desolation” was released late December 2008 to put an end to the black metal-beginnings of Svartnad and make room for a new sound.
“En Studie I Ensamhet” was released on Downfall Records in January 2011.
In 2010 - 2012, the majority of the songs that eventually would end up on “Efemär” were written and pre-produced. Mid 2012 Tobias moved away to enter university, and the majority of the song writing and pre-production came to a halt for the next two years.
In the summer of 2014 the recording of “Efemär” started, and would continue on and off for the next 6 years, mainly due to incompatible life/work-schedules, as well as living in different parts of Sweden.
In October 2018 Tobias and Alex once again lived in the same area and were able to finish the last stage of the production of “Efemär”.
“Efemär” was eventually released independently on June 6 2020.
