Canadian producer and sound artist Timothy Gowdy has been releasing gritty immersive ambient techno under the T. Gowdy moniker since 2018. His first two albums for Montréal experimental label Constellation, Therapy With Colour (2020) and Miracles (2022), are methodical explorations of psychoacoustic analogue electronics that blend a systems-music approach with aleatory slippage and alluvial timbres. Miracles was a Bleep Album Of The Week and his music has been acclaimed as “gently transportative, flickering like a busted halogen lamp” (The Wire) and “relishing the curves and tactile joys if its material, guiding towards richer states of consciousness” (ATTN:Magazine).
Gowdy’s latest Constellation release Trill Scan (2025) harnesses these sensibilities and techniques towards a notable stylistic expansion that draws on his background in medieval choral music and classical guitar, with vocals and lute appearing for the first time in a song suite that also incorporates post-punk influences in its textural, compositional, and narrative intent.
Gowdy has performed at MUTEK Barcelona and Montréal, Node Festival, Transart Festival, and Timezones Festival, and has shared stages with Actress, Lucretia Dalt, and Aaron Dilloway among many others. He has over seventy technical credits to his name as a sound engineer, for artists like SUUNS and Ada Lea. Among his sound installation works are Forward Feed at Eastern Bloc (Montréal), and Peribative at NEWNOW Festival (Essen).
