Background: Fischer and Stevens are both from Madison, Wis. "We met up with Vito about two years ago," says Fischer. "We had two different singers before we were a three-piece and neither of them worked out so, for the last year, we've been a three-piece, doing our own vocals."
Sound: "We're not heavy on vocals," says Fischer. "In general, we feel the music can stand on its own with very few vocals. We try to approach our music using guitar and drum texture as an expressive element. We like to use tempo changes, extreme dynamic changes to create contrast-some people call it on/off music. We try to think of the chords we use and try to really consider the possibilities we have with the instruments we use. We also do some shorter songs that actually work within a pop format. Another thing we've been doing is working in odd times and polyrhythms-trying to work in multiple time signatures at one time. That's something we're developing."
Influences: "We're within the same realm as bands like Bitch Magnet, Rapeman, Jesus Lizard and Tar, but I don't think that we could actually say that we sound like any of those bands," says Fischer. "It's more that these are different bands that we can appreciate for some of the similar things that we all do."...
