Tadhg Flanagan is a solo musician from the Scarborough area who began writing songs in his teens. Growing up on artists such as the Beatles, the Traveling Wilburys, David Bowie and Queen, despite not knowing much music in great detail he grew a fondness for evocative lyricism and melodies that danced between being catchy and yet simplistic; just enough to be remembered.
As a young boy, Tadhg learned that he was largely interested in linguistics, always trying to read the largest books he could find, and, being gifted multiple books and catalogs that made learning English fun, Tadhg quickly became fascinated by the apparent links between words, the syllablistic intertwining of vowels and consonants, the what-goes-where ideology became a key part of his ever growing love for wording.
From the age of 8, Tadhg had been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, which greatly changed his outlook on his future, and reinforced his wish to speak his mind to the world.
Though vague, his early writing showed emotive speech through ambiguous ideas and abstract terminologies.
Adapting a more rhythm-oriented playing style, he began writing songs inspired by grunge music at 14, and around age 16, his music began to form into a more folk-oriented fusion of psychedelic blues and country, with some influences of indie rock and alternative rock.
Tadhg then became the vocalist for the band Broken Oak, after doing solo gigs around the Yorkshire Coast.
