Tāl is a twin-sister duo from Auckland, New Zealand. Being both Malaysian-Indian and New Zealand-European, Shalina and Shantini Sandran create music that is a reflection of their upbringing and cultural background. The multi-instrumentalists combine the Indian sitar and tabla with ambient beats and stirring vocals, creating an Electro-Folk sound that is both dreamy and soulfully honest. The name ‘Tāl’ comes from ancient Sānskrit and translates as “rhythm.”
