Tanya Ward is a British/Australian singer/songwriter whose influences include jazz, blues, and folk.
Her musical journey began when she was gifted a ukelele by her uncle; a Tasmanian fisherman, who discovered it on an abandoned yacht that was drifting in the Southern Ocean. She taught herself to play and began writing songs, performing both in Australia and the UK. She later progressed to the banjo, adopting the claw-hammer style of playing that was favoured by the original exponents of the instrument.
After completing her degree in music at the Australian Institute of Music she returned to the UK, forming a duo with guitarist Strang (The Stiffs) for a series of gigs and recordings.
Her new album Feathers & Bones, recorded and mastered by Joe Fossard, and featuring Strang is due for release soon.
She divides her time between Lancashire and Scotland, where she continues to write and perform
