Taxiway began life as a solo venture for Michael Aurand in 2020. Initially conceived as a lo-fi beats project, the name comes from the ambient playlist Aurand presses play on whenever his plane starts taxiing down the runway. “The band started as an attempt to capture that vibe - moody, suspenseful, tense, but also relaxing and euphoric,” Aurand explains. Taxiway's first album, Absence, saw Taxiway expand to a trio with Aurand’s guitar and voice moving the sound towards more dream pop and Americana-tinged shoegaze. Now, Taxiway's line-up has solidified into a quartet, with Emily Jared taking up the bass from her husband to allow Joseph Jared to move to baritone guitar, and Aurand’s wife Emily Guthrie joining on drums. The songs are catchy (but a bit too atmospheric for them to be considered the Nashville ABBA).
