In the early human tribe, the shaman was both spiritual and musical leader. Beating the drum in repetitive patterns, the members of the tribe danced around the bonfire with the shaman urging them on, further inward, into ecstasy and transcendence. The dance to the beat of the drum is the most ancient sacred ritual of humanity. Teologen [the Swedish word for 'the theologian'] carries on in this tradition.
Since 2018, Jonatan Bäckelie aka Teologen has released music on labels such as Suara, Runemark, Click and Ritual. Sometimes working alone, sometimes together with long standing collaborators such as Rafael Cerato and SHMN, Teologen is the modern day shaman for a spiritual journey on the dance floor.
