Forged in the fires of Leeds’ late-night DIY scene, Têtes de Pois are a seven piece cinematic jazz outfit whose music, originally intended to heat up local dancefloors, has matured to become something more reflective and spiritual.
The set features extensive improvisation, is centred around a passion for collaboration and draws on an expansive library of influences. Combining grooves inspired by the great West African and South American movers and shakers with atmospheric and emotive harmony and horn arrangements akin to those of western jazz and film scores.
2019 saw the release of the debut EP, ‘Framework’ followed in autumn by the single ‘Hope’. The band recorded with Otis Mensah, Alice Kim (New Position) and Rob Mitchell (Abstract Orchestra, Haggis Horns), been played on BBC Radios 3 & 6, performed at a host of UK festivals (Greenman, Shambala, We Out Here and Love Supreme etc.) and venues (The 100 Club, Hootananny, The Wardrobe etc.).
