Tevmusiq

Hailing from the epicenter of Brooklyn, New York’s Crown Heights community, Tevmusiq got involved in music at the age of 17. The youngest of three, he grew up with brothers who often freestyled in the living room of their parents' apartment. After being inspired, he began rapping himself, laying his introspective rhymes atop melodic beats, resulting in a hybrid form that has captured the ears of both regions where Tev, as he’s often referred to, grew up.


Tevmusiq (born Tevin Smith) spent summers in North Carolina, with family and was influenced by hip-hop icons like <a href="spotify:artist:3nFkdlSjzX9mRTtwJOzDYB" data-name="JAY-Z">JAY-Z</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1ZwdS5xdxEREPySFridCfh" data-name="2Pac">2Pac</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2Mu5NfyYm8n5iTomuKAEHl" data-name="Ms. Lauryn Hill">Ms. Lauryn Hill</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:5me0Irg2ANcsgc93uaYrpb" data-name="The Notorious B.I.G.">The Notorious B.I.G.</a>, as well as the stylings of contemporary acts such as <a href="spotify:artist:3TVXtAsR1Inumwj472S9r4" data-name="Drake">Drake</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6l3HvQ5sa6mXTsMTB19rO5" data-name="J. Cole">J. Cole</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4EMtGVFvfCSrEmWaGV0roE" data-name="Theophilus London">Theophilus London</a>. With a developed interest in becoming a recording artist, Tevmusiq began recording in his bedroom and with the help of a family member, he made his first song. Drawing inspiration from poetry he honed his writing skills, and began crafting hooks and melodies. Initially, he deferred his rap dreams to achieve an Engineering degree, before being reintroduced to music in 2019.


Back home in New York, after time spent in Maryland, the Brooklyn native reconnected with college friends, and began building his musical empire. The frontman of his Smoove Money imprint, Tevmusiq is on track to establish himself as an artist, whose moody virility persona tows the line between passionate, and powerful—helping him craft a vision all his own.
