A cappella soul, pop, and rock group the Backbeats were formed as a sort of collegiate super vocal group, with members drawn from other singing groups on the a cappella scene at USC, Brigham Young University, UCLA and the Los Angeles Country High School of the Performing Arts. Basing themselves in in L.A., the group consisted of sopranos Joanna Jones and Kelley Jakle, alto Rachel Saltzman, tenors Jordan Pharoah and Eitan Nir, baritone Kenton Chen, bass Todd G. Levin, and vocal percussionist Courtney Jensen. After competing on the second season of NBC’s The Sing-Off, the Backbeats recorded a debut album, The Backbeats from The Sing-Off, which featured a cappella versions of various pop and soul hits. The album was released early in 2012. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
