Hailing from the fifth rainiest city in the UK, Swansea’s The Bad Electric combine a mix of punk, indie, alternative and electro with ear worm hooks, a hardcore DIY ethos and a twisted sense of humour. Aside from their energetic live shows and singalong choruses, The Bad Electric are also known for their striking orange stage jackets.
The Bad Electric is Jonny Randell (Guitar / Vocals), Matt Williams (Guitar / Synth / Vocals), Zach Williams (Bass / Vocals) and Tom Young (Drums). The members are all stalwarts of the Swansea music scene and have played / currently play in such bands as Suns of Thunder, Sigiriya, HWDU, Estuary Blacks and Pale Bastard.
Initially starting as a side project in 2020, born out of frustration from the length of time each members other bands were taking to write songs (and started with the immortal phrase “Let’s just start a punk band”), The Bad Electric has mutated into a fully realised band in its own right.
What began as a straight up 2 guitar, bass and drum four-piece has developed to include synths, samples and electro influences into a blend of Ramones, Devo and Snapped Ankles arguing with Pixies and The Dandy Warhols. Not content with just writing catchy, wonky songs, the band also cover all aspects of the creative process themselves. From recording, mixing and mastering to artwork and release, everything is done in house. If they had a slogan, it would be ‘DIY ‘Till I Die!’. But they don’t have a slogan… so it isn’t.
