The Bearfoot Hookers formed in Athens, GA in 2003 and became known as a hardworking, hard living rock & roll band writing original songs and putting on rowdy live shows. Their music genre was referred to as Beer Drinkin’ Gospel. The band featured Ty Manning (guitar, vocals), Mark Durfield (guitar, vocals), Jon Tonge (bass), Josh Skelton (drums), Scott Nicholson (keys, vocals) and Marcus Thompson (guitar). Manning, Durfield and Tonge all contributed to the song writing.
The Bearfoot Hookers released three full-length records, all produced by Mark Durfield. The first, Sweet Pickle Grits, was released in 2003 and was recorded in Durfield’s 130-year-old farm house. Their second album, Life at the Bar was recorded at Chase Park Transduction in Athens GA. Life at the Bar and was released in 2004.
Their third record, Beer Drinkin’ Gospel Revival was recorded in remote studio locations (an old cotton warehouse and in Durfield’s barn studio) and was released in 2010. It plays like a journal of the lives of musicians struggling to maintain their sanity while relationships started and failed, while bearing witness to the damage caused by addiction, all while trying to keep it all together through the madness that is the rock & roll business, even on a small scale. Beer Drinkin' Gospel Revival is a mature album with evocative song writing and outstanding musicianship. It features several guest musicians, a horn section and a beer drinking "gospel" choir.
