The Beautiful Now are a production duo operating out of an abandoned nuclear fallout shelter located in Zürich, Switzerland. They make what they call “modern beat-based world music”. It’s a personal concoction of earthy soul and a mildly post-Dilla-esque inflected hip hop – infused with a wide range of afro-diasporic sounds (from afro-Brazilian, through all types of West African iterations, all the way to trance inducing gnawa). Ninety percent of their music is played live, which is why their sound has that late summer day analog, crackling warmth about it.
