This Scottish group was formed in the mid-60s by Bill Patrick, formerly a band leader in a variety of Glasgow ballrooms. With an expanded line-up of Billy Adamson (drums), Fraser Calder (vocals), James Giffen (bass), Leslie Harvey (lead guitar), John McGinnis (piano), Larry Quinn (alto saxophone) and Patrick himself on saxophone, the group released its debut single for Parlophone Records, ‘Baby Don’t Look Down’/‘What Will I Do’, in 1965. A genuine attempt to incorporate the innovations of Chicago blues, the single augured well for the group’s future. Sadly, on their return from a performance on 12 March 1965, the group’s van was involved in a crash, killing Calder and Giffen. In an attempt to regroup, Patrick added tenor saxophonist Bobby Wishart to the line-up, but the fatalities robbed the group of its self-belief and impetus, and no further recordings were issued.
