New voice. Big thoughts. Songwriter & rapper, <a href="spotify:artist:668WnI9JPzmJVBVaaEaiYU" data-name="The Boy J">The Boy J</a> releases his debut EP, <a href="spotify:album:56YIBEt3rZIAPl2u0PygWI" data-name="Pedals">Pedals</a> in 2018.
His single Thoughts featured close friend and artist <a href="spotify:artist:0bJR03T7nQs9xAvR8KOEhH" data-name="Gavin Bunkelman">Gavin Bunkelman</a>. The first stepping stone to growth, and the start of a journey to find his sound.
Born in Southwest Mexico, J was adopted by the Midwest, USA & raised by his immigrant family. He started writing rhymes in spiral notebooks at the age of 13 and released his first track <a href="spotify:album:60caJ0KjybWfxzcCEYRHe8" data-name="Heat">Heat</a> on SoundCloud under the name Young J in 2016. Following multiple releases on SoundCloud and a self-produced music video made with homies for <a href="spotify:album:7GIRce67KovgXTnN7DPRYD" data-name="Paperboy">Paperboy</a>, he officially changed aliases to <a href="spotify:artist:668WnI9JPzmJVBVaaEaiYU" data-name="The Boy J">The Boy J</a> in late 2017 to prepare for his EP; <a href="spotify:album:56YIBEt3rZIAPl2u0PygWI" data-name="Pedals">Pedals</a> and platform distribution.
In 2019 he released a short three-part series on Instagram TV and YouTube that followed the creation of <a href="spotify:album:7pKxk6bfCirsTrCB1pdx3P" data-name="PLAYLIST">PLAYLIST</a>, which featured acts from friends <a href="spotify:artist:0nr84qMIBoAHR3xAuV9mw2" data-name="Oracle Ball">Oracle Ball</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0bJR03T7nQs9xAvR8KOEhH" data-name="Gavin Bunkelman">Gavin Bunkelman</a> and Lil Caez.
During the 2020 pandemic J released a special project which used two beats made by hometown artist <a href="spotify:artist:765GqQYfp6QBCkHFC4j18E" data-name="Arreguin Beats">Arreguin Beats</a> and experimented with new eclectic sounds and positive vibes. Claimed as his favorite body of work thus far, <a href="spotify:album:6KsEkOllcDMc4lxGkFw0Qn" data-name="Bread">Bread</a> is the most accurate representation of who he is and where he is going.
