The Breakdown are a five-piece indie rock band from London, formed in 2020. The lineup features Mike Connell (vocals), Andy Strevens (guitar), Richard Gale (guitar), Michael McGuiness (bass), and Toby Young (drums). Drawing inspiration from Britpop icons like Blur, XTC, and The Smiths, the band combines sharp lyricism with jangly guitars and a driving rhythm section.
Their debut album Open the Barricades arrived in 2022, introducing a sound rooted in post-lockdown disillusionment and British alternative tradition. This was followed by This Rigged Machine, which expanded their sonic palette and lyrical scope, further cementing their place in the Britpop revival movement.
