Andrew Chapman, Murphy Lamb, and Cam Gooden, under their flagship project The Brothers’ Mother, like to live in a musical space that moves as freely as a mountain stream. Their blend of chamber folk carries traces of bluegrass, indie folk, jazz, and classical music to new depths. At one moment, musical fragments converge with lightning-strike clarity. In the next, a melody is passed from guitar to bass to keyboard like a jar of moonshine at a family dinner.

Their sophomore EP, CITY WATER, was recorded in one coffee-fueled weekend at the Mountain Arts Center Studios in Prestonsburg, KY. With engineer and percussionist Brennen Meek (COLLECTIVE, Northern Now) at the helm, the band brings along a company of small critters, apple trees, date nights, and dancers. These backdrops and characters look to both the oak tree and its acorns, to the mountain well and the city water, asking not only how we arrived here, but how we go on.
