The Burgers is not a band; it’s an idea that originated in Beijing, China, beginning as Zac Burger’s bedroom project. His music spans punk, folk punk, indie, and styles he himself isn’t sure how to define. Zac started writing and producing songs in his bedroom from the winter of 2019.

In November 2022, The Burgers released Amusement Park of Beijing, Stay or Run Away, and the EP The Run Away Trilogy. Yes, it was a terrible and shocking release strategy, but he did put out his first two albums and one EP—songs he had spent three years writing in his bedroom—within a single month.

In November 2023, Zac left his hometown, unable to bear the dirty rock scene in China that glorified grand narratives, politicization, misogyny, and promiscuity.

To look for another girl who is like the one who had died—just like the songs of Glaswegian indie pop hero Bubblegum Lemonade—he landed in Glasgow.

On May 3, 2025, The Burgers released their third studio album, Kick Fights to Lose.

After drifting for some time, Zac returned to Beijing in 2026. He now rejects any fixed base and moves without a permanent home.

Zac Burger rejects the “band” as punk’s only valid form—he believes it’s just another kind of collectivism. Now he’s bringing backing tracks and his brother Drummy Burger to the stage, unfazed by the dumb laughter of conservative punks.
