In September 2020, Jeannine heard Stefan singing outside a café. Attracted by his music, she walked by to listen and gave him her phone number. A few days later they had their first performance together as an early iteration of the band, including Sarah Findley. A few months later, the pair began a relationship and founded The Canary Initiative with current members, Tristan Murphy (Drums / GTR / Vox), Sarah Findley (BGV / Cello), and Charlie Hayden (Bass). In January, 2021, the band began recording ‘Time Moves.’ Jeannine’s father, Lovell Anderson, recorded bass on the track. Later, Charlie Hayden joined the group as their permanent bassist.
The Canary Initiative showcases the co-founders’ individual talents, expresses their love for each other, and shares a message of heartache, healing, hope and faith. Each member brings a unique perspective and skillset to the group, with influences from folk, soul, jazz, classical, and alternative rock. The Canary Initiative is an American time capsule, defined by their honest and optimistic outlook.
