Jamie Papish, renowned world music percussionist/songwriter and Kevin Fraser, reggae/rock singer/songwriter/ percussionist met in Topanga Canyon where they both resided just before the lockdown in March 2020. They shared a vision of moving the people by layering simple chants to sing and infectious rhythms to dance to. Feeling they needed the feminine balance of vocals and energy, they recruited long time friends and fellow musicians, Dawn Marie Yurkovic and Renette Johnson. The Chants were complete. This birthed a fusion of sound and imagery inspired by the celebration of primitive chanting mixed with percussion instruments and rhythms from all over the world. With the idea of transcending the current climate of societal uncertainty, The Chants created a sound designed to empower and give a voice to the people. For our debut song, we added the haunting and ecstatic vocalist, Úyanga Bold. For our second release "Adama" we added guitar, bass, violin & native American flute.
