The Cinematic Rejects

The Cinematic Rejects are a South African rock band formed in 2019. The band was founded by a bunch of film geeks who wanted to combine both passions for music and cinema by creating music that is narrative driven. Their music takes the audience on a musical journey, akin to the experience of watching a feature-length film, with dynamic shifts and a wide range of emotions.

Hailing from various parts of South Africa and operating out of Cape Town, The Cinematic Rejects boast a diverse musical background. Jason, a classically trained pop vocalist with a passion for ballads and belting, and Jesse, with his love for classic rock, founded the band. They were later joined by James, who brought a 2000s alternative and progressive rock influence, and Thomas, who added a metal edge. Shandy, a jazz musician, joined in 2024, enriching the band's sound with jazz-style breakdowns and new vocal layers.

The band's music spans a range of genres, from songs about rejection and grief to party anthems, showcasing their wild personalities and versatility. Influenced by bands like Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, The Killers, My Chemical Romance, The Struts and Panic! at the Disco, The Cinematic Rejects blend party-starting energy with emotional depth and pop-punk flair. Their 2022 release "Daisy" and 2023's "Streetlights" highlight their evolving sound, with Shandy's addition in 2024 promising an exciting year ahead.
