The Comedowns are a New Zealand band formed in the early 2000s and created a name for themselves in the rock world in the Pacific Northwest region of America, Canada, and Australia. They draw influences upon the sounds of pioneers like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Queen of the Stone Age, who defined grunge and alternative rock. The Comedowns have become popularized by blending their sweet and gritty vocal harmonies and intricate guitar solos.
The band made their debut on CFOX 99.3 FM Canada, and by playing with touring bands in the U.S., Their first EP was recorded at Roundhead Studios, which received a Commercial Radio play on the Rock FM. Their single Dissolve was included on MTV NZ.
The band performed at the Rugby World Cup and the Silver Scroll awards in NZ. In 2012, the EP Laps Around the Antenna in the Sky was recorded at the Lab, and the single Turn Me On began rotation on both Music TV channels and commercial radio. The band recorded Video World, which was mastered by Greg Calbi, known for Bowie and the Strokes at Sterling Sound in New York City. The Comedown's performed at the Australian Grand Prix in 2019.
The latest self-titled EP was recorded during the Coronavirus global pandemic. It was mixed and produced entirely by Jason Mohi in his studio, mastered by legendary engineer Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in Nashville.
