Spanning flavors from sixties proto-punk to gospel tent revival, the Due Diligence is centered around the songwriting and live-wire antics of Isaac Gillespie. Consequence of Sound says, "The Due Diligence embraces soul-singer enthusiasm with punk-rock recklessness.” The son of a preacher and a trial lawyer, Gillespie (who has collaborated with <a href="spotify:artist:1fZpYWNWdL5Z3wrDtISFUH" data-name="Shakey Graves">Shakey Graves</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:49BZ5IiDgPouHX3pg8O4nK" data-name="Landlady">Landlady</a>'s Adam Schatz) writes Due Diligence songs as anthems - exploring personal issues in wry and often funny ways.
Due Diligence songs are built on old-school grooves - catchy but simple enough to accommodate spur-of-the-moment detours. On any given night Gillespie may end up diving off stage to dance with the crowd or take off on an extended rant about current events. The New Yorker says "The Due Diligence’s garage rock results in plenty of high-spirited call-and-response audience participation."
The Due Diligence's rotating lineup also allows for the band to be a particle smasher between elite musicians in Brooklyn's thriving indie, jazz and DIY punk scenes. Over the years the band has included members or future-members of <a href="spotify:artist:7xkkeemZnfafRwrWEtlyaN" data-name="Ava Luna">Ava Luna</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:57kIMCLPgkzQlXjblX7XXP" data-name="Phosphorescent">Phosphorescent</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3kZdsaTYgaaolNxpnJ4iDe" data-name="Son Lux">Son Lux</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1bNgeTuV3MlkAq64Ybvcq5" data-name="Delicate Steve">Delicate Steve</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5ltJZgIW3OkY5WvuzX5MYz" data-name="Mr Twin Sister">Mr Twin Sister</a> and many more.
In 2018 The Due Diligence release their third full-length Life Is Hard, a rollicking gospel-tinged collection of songs about death, lust and the tug of war between the two. This joins 2014's Are You Down - an homage to the social currents of rock n roll show-going in the style of New York 70's punk rock.
