Between Engineering and music production, he found his own essence by producing a type of Hip Hop called Boom Bap. Nowadays he’s part of a group of producers called Medellin Producers City (MPC) and one of the best Hip Hop producers of Boom Bap of Medellin city. Soon he will be releasing two projects; an instrumental album of 10 tracks, and an album he’s producing for the rap group Arrieroz, from which he’s also part of.
As music producer Jeff has always gave priority to analogue sound in his productions as well as to the human groove that a software can’t reproduce. “It is good to combine digital technology into music production, but not to depend solely on those processes,” said Jeff.
He has applied the principle of “analogue over digital” since he began producing music, as he said: a machine can’t never be human. “To me is important to give to M.P.C and to The Equation Beats that flavour, that particular blueprint of human intuition”. In our trip to Colombia, we contacted him and traveled to Medellin to know more about the mind behind The Equation Beats.
The Equation Beats isn’t as rigid as maths can be. I try to give as much human feeling as possible. Hence I work with machines such as MPCs and SP 1200, something that definitely characterises my music. Nowdays he is part of Barry Seal Records from Miami FL.
