The Figs were formed during the mid-'90s as a duo consisting of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Laura Wenzel and singer, songwriter, and bassist Adrienne Rothar. Each talented lady has well over a decade of musical experience behind her. Both Wenzel and Rothar have worked solo and been members of other female rock bands, including Rumour Has It. In 2000, the Figs released their debut album Avalanche. The recording features ten original tunes such as "Tree of Shame," "Givers and Takers," "Shades of You," "In Your Eyes," and "Something About You." Wenzel and Rothar decided to employ a backing band for Avalanche, and eventually decided to employ them full-time.
