Born of East St. Louis’ YoDi label, soulful girl trio the Georgettes released one lone 45 in 1971. “Would You Rather” b/w “Hard Hard” was an exercise in versatility, exhibiting the vast stylistic and vocal range of Phyllis Boone, Betty Cox, and alternating members Brenda and Marsha (last names unknown). Though the Georgettes’ career began and ended in a moment, their red-hot belting cast upon liquid harmonies remains a stand-out today.
