Trans-continental musique-Anglais since 2002. A. Cooke, D. Fox, A. Marlowe, N. Mellors.
“The World In Air Quotes” is The God In Hackney’s third album. Currently being described as “pretty magical” (NPR), the most enthralling melange of art-rock & new wave in the last decade" (Hi-Fi), “excellent, foreboding” (The Wire’s Adventures in Sound and Music radio show), “extraordinarily kaleidoscopic in its beautiful strangeness” (The Seance), like "Peter Gabriel fronting Talking Heads" (Utility Fog, FBI Radio) and featuring “one of the best songs I’ve heard so far in 2023, and almost certainly in all of the 2020s” (Blastitude). “If there ever was a genre defying, border crossing, progressive prog album, this is it […] ‘The World In Air Quotes’ stands out between pretty much anything else I have heard this year. Hearing = believing.” (Weirdo Shrine).
“The World in Air Quotes” is a huge record - a genre-shifting, style-melting masterpiece of alt-pop and jazz inflected art-rock which is by turns moody, heart-wrenching & poetic. It is essential listening for fans of Eno, Coil, Talk Talk, This Mortal Coil, Durutti Column, Peter Gabriel, 1980s ECM jazz. The record's innovative progenitors are manifold but it sounds beholden to none of them. It’s an album that resonates with the anxieties of the moment—feelings about climate change, isolation, the social impact of technology, the flattening of history—yet illuminates the darkness with laughter and surreal imagination.
