The HT3, named after keyboardist and leader Harley Toberman, were an undistinguished mid-'60s garage band from the Minneapolis area that managed to get some airplay in the summer of 1965 in their hometown and Los Angeles. Their material was a slightly-behind-the-times mix of simple instrumentals, early-'60s frat rock, and a bit of British Invasion influence. "Cool Breeze" itself was a jazzy piano instrumental with the kind of clangy piano and rudimentary drums you might expect to hear in a high school rehearsal room. "Cool Breeze" showed some signs of catching on in other markets besides the Twin Cities, but according to Toberman, its chances were scuttled due to a foul-up whereby records couldn't get pressed upon initial demand for the tune. A compilation of tapes the band recorded in 1965 at two separate sessions, including "Cool Breeze," appeared on a self-titled CD on Bacchus in 2001. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
