The Hayds are a surfwave four-piece from Riverside, California, pioneering a genre of their own that blends dark pop, retro dance, and coastal indie rock, into a sound built for midnight drives and smoke-filled clubs. Surfwave is equal parts shimmer and shadow, blending nostalgia, rebellion, and rhythm, and capturing the feeling of being young, lost, and electrified by the night.
Led by frontman Joshua Muñoz, with lead guitarist Darius Rodriguez, bassist Christian Martinez, and drummer Christian Daniel, the band pairs raw, cinematic songwriting with hypnotic, dance-ready production. Their live shows balance vulnerability with edge, and their music lives in the space between heartbreak and hedonism.
Drawing influence from the moody, nocturnal textures of <a href="spotify:artist:1Xyo4u8uXC1ZmMpatF05PJ" data-name="The Weeknd">The Weeknd</a>’s early work, the coastal cool and emotional glam of <a href="spotify:artist:77SW9BnxLY8rJ0RciFqkHh" data-name="The Neighbourhood">The Neighbourhood</a>, and the psychedelic pulse of <a href="spotify:artist:5INjqkS1o8h1imAzPqGZBb" data-name="Tame Impala">Tame Impala</a>'s dance-heavy arrangements, The Hayds have carved out a world that feels both familiar and entirely new.
Recent singles like the woozy, ethereal “<a href="spotify:album:0BuDKa46u5YRYFmfJpCcNJ" data-name="loser's luck">loser's luck</a>” and the Y2K-tinted, rhythm-driven “<a href="spotify:album:3Xk91x1f3068sZfXwe4FOB" data-name="drown me">drown me</a>" mark the start of a bold new chapter. With their debut album already behind them, the band is now pushing deeper into their sound while continuing to reimagine what alternative pop can be, building toward a defining surfwav.ep.
