The Honest Family grew up in rural Minnesota. Their great-great-grandfather William Ärlig (that’s Swedish for Honest) was a fiddler who played with countryman Joe Hill, and his musical legacy still runs strong in the family. Other early influences of The Honest Family were early 90’s rap records and a Bruce Springsteen collection that got stuck in the tape deck of the family’s Buick Roadmaster.

”There are no good or bad guys in Springsteens songs. He tells people’s stories in the same way no matter where they’re coming from. And I think Notorious B.I.G. and Ghostface Killah have the same thing. That always inspired us,” says Truman Honest.

The first draft of the groups debut single was called American Horror Story, a dark outlook on a country that seemed to be falling apart. But after a long road trip to see an old friend in El Paso, Frank Honest added a new part that flipped the script, giving it a sense of hope and a new title: American Beauty.

”I met so many people who feel their country let them down, but at the same time they love America more than anything. You won’t see it staring down at your phone, but there’s a lot more love than hate out there.”

American Beauty is written and produced by The Honest Family and features baby sister Barbara Jean on lead vocals.
