Formed in 2017, Oxford based The Ideas comprises of G S Creigh vocals and guitar, Steve Hare on bass and backing vocals and Nick Aspey on drums.
The band wear their influences on their sleeves – especially those from the Oxford area – with the <a href="spotify:artist:0WPY9nnBy01s5QOt4o4oQX" data-name="Ride">Ride</a> and similar 'shoegaze' sounds featuring strongly, as well as those other Oxford heroes, <a href="spotify:artist:4Z8W4fKeB5YxbusRsdQVPb" data-name="Radiohead">Radiohead</a>.
The Ideas audio-landscape is rich, with tonal and vocal inspiration present from early 80s post-punk artists, such as <a href="spotify:artist:7bu3H8JO7d0UbMoVzbo70s" data-name="The Cure">The Cure</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:432R46LaYsJZV2Gmc4jUV5" data-name="Joy Division">Joy Division</a>, brought up-to-date with pounding back-drops, akin to <a href="spotify:artist:2cCUtGK9sDU2EoElnk0GNB" data-name="The National">The National</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3WaJSfKnzc65VDgmj2zU8B" data-name="Interpol">Interpol</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:3kjuyTCjPG1WMFCiyc5IuB" data-name="Arcade Fire">Arcade Fire</a>.
April 2020 saw The Ideas throwing their support behind The Royal Medical Benevolent Fund – releasing Home (City of Dreaming Spires) as a COVID-19 charity record, to raise important funds for the UK's frontline medical workers. With the song being played on BBC Radio and reaching #11 in the Amazon bestseller list for the week of release.
The band recently recorded with renowned UK indie producer George Shilling ( Frank Turner, Blur, Teenage Fanclub ) and have their debut album planned for the later half of 2022.
The Ideas are working towards live shows during 2022.
