The Informal Thief

The Informal Thief aka. Lukas Klestil was born in Tyrol, Austria, growing up mostly running through his backyard, that other people call the forest. Moving to Vienna in 2012, music began to play a big role in his life and became a substitute for many things he probably missed from back home. In 2015 he signed with Tuco Music Austria, a small Innsbruck based label, and shortly after released his debut album. The 10 song LP was mainly focused on guitar and vocals and found itself resonating well with people who are into artists such as Bob Dylan or The Tallest Man On Earth.
After playing lots of solo shows within the following years, a 6 song EP that offers a much broader view of the young Austrian musicians' creative vision was released in 2017, focusing on many more things happening alongside of acoustic guitars and vocals. After releasing the EP called ‚Despair of Desire’ he went on tour with a full band for around one and a half years, finalizing with the announcement of a break from playing live shows for some time in March 2018.
Since then, The Informal Thief puts all of his effort into yet again reinventing his sound and musical vision, constantly taking on new influences and trying to implement them into his own style. What can be said is that changes are going to feel radical for many listeners, yet the essence of the sound that constitutes Klestils' work is unmistakably recognizable.
