The Instant

Originating from Germany, The Instant is an innovative jazz project, unique in their use of an array of singers to ensure each song’s mood is perfectly captured. Amongst these singers are Alex Seubert, Petra Scheeser and Barbera König, and at the heart of the project lies the highly accomplished musician-composer-arranger Tom Hilt. Tom not only plays every instrument on each track but also creates all of the arrangements as well as writing some of the songs, with more songwriting contributions from father-daughter duo Reinhard and Denise Yoko Berndt.
The album 'Nightfall' encapsulates the creative freedom that comes with bringing a unique take on a genre as classic and untouched as jazz. The fact that every song has a different vocalist on it, allows for such a wonderful variety of expression. The moods and atmosphere differ so wildly from track to track that you may wonder how it all fits succinctly into one album. But it is precisely the stark distinctiveness of each song that allows it to sound like one collective body of work.
