The Los Sundowns is a new project from Guitarist/Producer Beto Martinez (<a href="spotify:artist:1EJ0KSMkpoQJHChu5AyTHE" data-name="Grupo Fantasma">Grupo Fantasma</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:75ITBSKqlC5hlS4PZ2XP1S" data-name="Brownout">Brownout</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3fsyG1yskjAgNCPPfIUBcE" data-name="Money Chicha">Money Chicha</a>) and Drummer/DJ Daniel Villarreal (<a href="spotify:artist:12Av6pjGrpX0wfTTyXNsyP" data-name="Dos Santos">Dos Santos</a>).
The two discussed a project for some time that could capture the late 60’s, early 70’s
vibe of Psychedelic Latin Soul bands like Los Angeles Negros and Los Pasteles
Verdes. After some down time from heavy summer touring in 2019, Martinez set to
work writing demos for the new project. The pair then spent a week in late January
at Martinez’s Lechehouse Music Recording Studio outside of Austin laying down
basic tracks for most of the songs.
Over the next few months and with the onset of Stay-At-Home orders due to the
global pandemic, Martinez continued to flesh out the recordings, overdubbing
guitars, keys and bass himself. Guest musicians include Alex Chávez (Dos Santos), Fermin Sanchez (<a href="spotify:artist:7l6cdPhOLYO7lehz5xfzLV" data-name="The Guadaloops">The Guadaloops</a>), and Alex Marrero, Greg Gonzalez and Peter Stopschinski (Brownout).
What resulted is a breezy record of Latin Psychedelic Soul with melancholy vibes transporting the listener to a beachside hang from sun up to sundown.
