THE LOVING CUP are a UK band from North Wales, formed in the early 2000s. A shared love of classic 60s/70s melody and harmony drawing influences from country, blues, rock, and soul. It’s hard to pin down, but on his Radio 2 show Mark Lamaar described the band’s music as “Southern Boogie Rock”. We like that.
The Loving Cup released their debut album in 2003. Americana-UK said it "was a classic ." Kool Kat Muzik in New Jersey called it "Terrific hook-filled alt-country from this brilliant new UK group with a Faces-like swagger.”
The band went on to release “Goofer Dust” in 2008, receiving national radio airplay from Bob Harris on his Country show and led to a live session at BBC Maida Vale for Radio 2. “Bring along your lovers” from the album was hailed as “an instant classic” by Lamaar on his show.
In 2011 The Loving Cup released “One Last Hard Goodbye”. Rock’N’Reel magazine said “maybe it wasn't recorded at Muscle Shoals in the summer of 73, but you wouldn’t know, so beautifully is it executed. An A-grade classic, it simply oozes good-time rock and roll from every sweaty pore”
Life took over soon after, as it often does and The Loving Cup went into hiatus before splitting in 2014. You can’t keep a good band down though! Songwriters Andy Vickers, Gareth Catterall and Jarred Livesey relaunched the band in 2020 with a new rhythm section. The band continue to write and record music, and hopefully you will hear it here - we think the best is yet to come.
