THE MAN is the brainchild of songwriter Andreas Johansson and songwriter/producer Peter Ågren . They met in the early 00’s and bonded through a shared love for the most melodic music of the seventies. They started making music together for the fun of it, and renowned bass player Anders Lennartsson joined shortly after.
A Space Waltz was the debut album from THE MAN. It was released on the Tokyo indie label Philter Records in 2005.
Never officially released in Sweden, it nevertheless gained airplay there with songs “Mothership” and “Summer Dies”, the latter featuring vocals by Andreas Mattsson (Popsicle).
In 2008, BBC used the album track “Chant it like a Mantra” as the opening theme for their tv series Freezing, starring Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern.
Lake, Ocean or Sea was the second album by THE MAN, recorded over a long period and finished in 2013. It features an eclectic mix of acoustic, electric and electronic instruments, and has a more experimental sound than its predecessor. The goal was to make the most beautiful music possible, right there and then. Elements from various decades of music include autoharp (as heard in American folk music), melodies influenced by seventies pop/rock, omnichord (80's style) and vocals evoking old Hollywood.
THE MAN has consisted of various musicians on stage (and guests in the studio), but the core has always been main songwriter Andreas with Peter at the helm in the studio.
