The Mean Reds

The Mean Reds origins can be traced back to two of its members' high
school years. Grade 10, 1986. Gareth Eaves, vocal-
ist/guitarist met guitarist Carlo Diano and formed a songwriting duo that
has spanned the past decade in various shapes and sizes to its present
day form. Gareth's got the big voice and quirky lyrics, while Carlo mixes
2 parts melody with 4 parts distortion to achieve the required sonic
flavour.

Drummer Harley Darnel has played in Vancouver for a number of years,
formerly playing with members of PULL. The latest reincarnation of the Mean
Reds has seen the addition of Marilee Breitkreutz on bass, replacing former
bass player Colin Macrae who has finally succumbed to corporate pressures.
Marilee is new to the scene, but plans to make a big first impression with
technical prowess and sweet harmonies.

The Mean Reds began as The Citizens in January 1994, during which time
the band recorded its first 4 song demo and played numerous shows. In
August 1995. Their indie release, "Pretty In Pieces", was produced by the band and
Seattle's Mark Guenther, who also worked on the debut recording of The
Presidents of the United States of America. The band has been selected to showcase Music West '97
for the second year running, and NXNE '97 in Toronto where they will embark
on their first cross-Canada tour.
