Boston based band The Montgomerys, was formed by Peter Montgomery (The Irresponsibles,) in 2003, with the idea of bringing the best musicians Boston has to offer to record his songs.
Pete's reputation as a talented songwriter was first recognized with his band The Irresponsibles. With Pete as the primary songwriter, the Irresponsibles developed a strong following in the Boston music scene, winning Musician Magazine's Best Unsigned Band of the Year (1996). They released 7 albums over the course of ten years, and recorded and toured with Adrian Belew (King Crimson, David Bowie).
The Montgomerys feature a roving cast of Boston's best musicians, brought together by Pete. They've released 4 albums, and have recorded with some Boston legends including Elliot Eason of The Cars, who, on the strength of Pete's songwriting, agreed to play lead guitar on their 2020 album First World Blues.
Known for irreverent, witty lyrics, the songs are catchy and addictive, yet overlie uniquely original and sophisticated musical arrangements. Recording the Montgomery's albums is a collaborative effort, one Pete describes as exhilarating, allowing him to work with musicians he's long admired.
Mount Hope Improvement Society is the Montgomery's 4th release and Pete's 14th album. Named after a one-room schoolhouse in his hometown, the album is rooted in indie rock and flirts with Americana. The album is a sort of coming home, finally finding your roots and hope in a place that is home.
