The Musicians of Bremen are a heavy rock band from Greater Glasgow.
Inspired by a shared love of '80s independent punk and '90s alternative rock, lifelong friends Fergus Wilkie (guitar, vocals) and Alex Baillie (bass) joined forces many years ago. Donald Crocket (drums) completed the trio in 2013.
Since then the group has grown a formidable catalogue of gritty, riff-laden and often unnerving material. At its heart, however, the music is underpinned by melody, selflessness and the necessary constraints of writing frenetic, expansive songs as a three-piece.
In the summer of 2018 work began on a debut album with hugely respected producer Andy Miller (Mogwai, Arab Strap, Life Without Buildings). The partnership was a success: Miller's enthusiasm and wealth of expertise added atmosphere and texture, whilst crucially harnessing the band's uproarious live sound. The collaboration was so fruitful that ample material was recorded for a double album. Work was concluded late in 2019.
"Breathe" was released in October 2020, serving urgent notice for what was to come.
INTOLERANCE, the first instalment of the debut double album, arrived in February 2021. This earned the band many new listeners and admirers, leading to a steady presence on Scottish playlists and airwaves.
November heralded a live return, as the band landed a support slot for London punk heroes <a href="spotify:artist:2tZaXwpCHEhoVEBQuRI4vu" data-name="False Heads">False Heads</a>.
RESILIENCE, the second half of the album, was released on 17 December 2021.
