Coming off a rapid rise to power in 2023, The Norwesters are undoubtedly heralding a much needed revival of traditional folk music in Aotearoa New Zealand. The brainchild of singer-songwriter Chris Starr and multi-instrumentalist Liam Oliver, they formed out of their shared love of Celtic folk music.
Proving that these European folk traditions still have a place in this day and age, The Norwesters have surprised and delighted people of all ages with their high energy and chaotic performances. They bring a fresh interpretation to the traditions they draw from and it has been noticed. The boys started off 2023 playing The Pogues covers in the corner of a pub and have finished it sharing their originals on the main stage of one of New Zealand’s biggest festivals: Rhythm and Alps.
