The Ocean Fracture were a Glasgow-based post-hardcore band, active from 2004 until 2010. The band’s core trio comprised singer and guitarist Steven Gillies, guitarist Paul McArthur and drummer Sean Campbell, alongside a rotating procession of bassists. Their early sound heavily referenced the abstract end of the Hydra Head roster (in particular Mare), with later releases showcasing a noisecore influence more reminiscent of Converge or Coalesce.
The band's debut album, The Sunmachine and the Ocean - recorded in Kent with producer Ben Phillips (November Coming Fire) - was released in 2006 via Eyesofsound Records (Devil Sold His Soul, Bossk), receiving moderate coverage in the UK rock press, including features in Rock Sound and Kerrang!. A self-released double A-side single followed in 2008. The band’s final release was a split EP with Sheffield’s Bleaklow, recorded in Kent by Oz Craggs (Jairus) and released by Postgrad Records in 2010. Between recordings, The Ocean Fracture shared a stage, both on tour and at home, with And So I Watch You from Afar, These Arms Are Snakes and Secondsmile, amongst others.
