The Orphan is Ossian Marttala without band mates. With band mates, check out other northern acts <a href="spotify:artist:6qtOKOrUCZ7d1lnPQDCgec" data-name="Zacharius Carls Group">Zacharius Carls Group</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:2FffxT8mhMvoQuMWoX12Wg" data-name="J. A. Mäki">J. A. Mäki</a>.
The debut album Hard On For Chaos (2025) by The Orphan is the result of a fresh collaboration between long-standing figures in the Northern indie music scene: Ossian Marttala and Roku Rousu (Fernet Underground, Moses Hazy, Morley, among others).
Hailing from the same curve of the Tornio River, these towering musicians first began their journey in Marttala’s garage in the Kiviranta neighborhood of Tornio. Since then, their paths have crossed time and again, wandering side by side along the backroads of rock ’n’ roll. The spirit of that garage still lives strong in the melodies and atmosphere of Hard On For Chaos.
The album features songs carefully selected from The Orphan’s vault, with a focus on the concept of a “basement record.” Conventional and more pop-oriented tracks were ruthlessly excluded—those will have their turn on future releases.
